This opportunity is within the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF), hosted in the Agriculture and Commodities Division of the WTO. The STDF is a global partnership that supports developing countries in strengthening food safety, animal and plant health standards, helping them meet international trade requirements and access global markets.


Position Overview: Communications and Outreach Officer

The WTO Secretariat is seeking a skilled Communications and Outreach Officer to join the STDF team. The selected candidate will play a key role in enhancing the visibility, outreach, and impact of STDF activities, aligned with the STDF Strategy 2025–2030 and its Theory of Change.

This is a one-year fixed-term role with the possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Content Creation: Draft and edit engaging stories, newsletters, blogs, press releases, briefing notes, and presentations for the STDF website, reports, and communication channels.
  • Communications Strategy: Support the design and implementation of outreach and communication plans to promote STDF’s work globally.
  • Digital Outreach: Expand STDF’s online and social media presence by creating content such as videos, infographics, and visual materials.
  • Reporting: Contribute to the preparation of the STDF Annual Report, work plans, and other strategic documents.
  • Partnership Building: Support relationships with partners, donors, governments, and international organizations to amplify the impact of STDF’s knowledge and innovations.
  • Monitoring & Analytics: Collect and analyze data to evaluate communication reach and engagement, using tools like Google Analytics.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with WTO colleagues, founding partners (FAO, WHO, WOAH, World Bank), and other stakeholders to maximize the reach of STDF’s work.

Qualifications and Skills

🎓 Education

  • Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Public Policy, Political Science, or related field.

🛠️ Technical Skills

  • Strong writing and communication skills with proven ability to simplify and present technical information clearly.
  • Experience in content creation, editing, and digital media management.
  • Ability to design visual content and moderate online platforms (e.g., LinkedIn).
  • Knowledge of analytics tools to measure reach and engagement.
  • Understanding of trade and development issues and related international frameworks.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in communications and outreach.
  • Experience in digital media and social media strategy.
  • Familiarity with developing country contexts in trade or development is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage.
