Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Lead agricultural development activities under WFP’s Smallholder Farmer (SHF) Unit, with a focus on reducing post-harvest losses, improving access to technology, and enhancing market linkages.
- Manage specialized staff and implementing partners, ensuring quality delivery of programmes in line with donor requirements.
- Oversee monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes to improve programme effectiveness.
- Strengthen policy engagement by collaborating with government line ministries, private sector actors, and development partners.
- Develop technical strategies in agribusiness, market systems, and agricultural value chain interventions.
- Coordinate integration of cross-cutting issues such as gender, youth employment, disability inclusion, social protection, and resilience.
- Engage with the private sector, including MSMEs, aggregators, off-takers, and financial institutions, to expand opportunities for smallholder farmers.
- Support digital innovations and e-commerce solutions for agricultural services, insurance, weather data, and financial access.
- Mobilize resources, prepare high-quality reports, and liaise with donors.

Required Qualifications & Experience
Education
- University degree in Business Administration, Economics (General or Agricultural), Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Sciences, Project Management, or related fields.
- Postgraduate qualifications in agricultural value chains or market systems development are an added advantage.
Professional Experience
- 3–5 years of professional experience in agricultural market systems, smallholder farmer support, or agribusiness development.
- Experience with project management, policy advocacy, and donor liaison.
- Proven track record of working with governments, private sector stakeholders, NGOs, or international organizations.
- Field-level experience in value chain development, smallholder engagement, and food systems strengthening.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills in English (fluency in Swahili is also required).
- Knowledge of gender-responsive agricultural programming.
- Familiarity with market systems development approaches, pro-smallholder procurement, and MSME development.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Tanzania.
Languages
- Fluency in English and Swahili (oral and written) is required.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
