Consultancy Title and Purpose
Consultancy Title: Social Media Consultant – Humanitarian
Duration: 12 months (01 December 2025 – 31 December 2026)
Location: Remote (with coordination from New York HQ)
The purpose of this consultancy is to:
- Develop and manage social media content and strategies related to UNICEF’s humanitarian agenda.
- Support communication on Level 3 (L3) and Level 2 (L2) emergencies.
- Ensure high-quality, engaging, and timely social media presence across global platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn.
- Provide data-driven insights, analytics, and reports to strengthen performance and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
The consultant will work under the guidance of the Digital Communication Manager in DSS. The role focuses on content creation, strategy execution, analytics, and coordination in humanitarian contexts.
1. High-Quality Social Media Content on L3 and L2 Emergencies
- Develop, schedule, and monitor up to 5 posts per week on sudden-onset and protracted humanitarian crises.
- Adapt and publish press releases, statements, ED/DED travel updates, and multimedia content.
- Provide feedback on scripts and drafts for up to 5 videos per month on humanitarian emergencies.
- Prepare short weekly reports with insights on trends, community engagement, and conversations related to L3/L2 emergencies.
- Participate in coordination meetings to align social media strategies with broader advocacy.
- Create up to 30 bespoke posts for UNICEF goodwill ambassadors and high-profile supporters.
Deliverable Deadlines:
- First cycle: 30 April 2026
- Second cycle: 30 August 2026
- Final cycle: 31 December 2026
2. Data and Performance Analysis
- Produce 15 bespoke reports analyzing content performance and community sentiment for specific emergencies.
- Contribute to 13 monthly divisional analytics reports on L3/L2 crises.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to improve engagement and optimize content.
Deliverable Deadline: 31 December 2026
3. Content on Cross-Cutting Humanitarian Issues
- Develop up to 10 social media packages highlighting issues such as child protection, malnutrition, EWIPA, and more.
- Coordinate with advocacy, web, content, and design teams to ensure content is tailored and localized for multiple audiences.
- Develop up to 15 bespoke posts for UNICEF ambassadors on humanitarian themes.
- Adapt content for up to 3 paid social media campaigns.
- Create 20 donor recognition posts to highlight support in humanitarian responses.
- Input into the development of the GCA Humanitarian Communication Strategy.

Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role, applicants must demonstrate a strong combination of academic credentials, professional experience, and technical expertise.
Education
- University degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in developing and executing social media strategies for large/global accounts (500K+ audience).
- Proven experience managing communications during humanitarian emergencies (sudden-onset and protracted crises).
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging content under tight deadlines.
- Strong skills in copywriting, copy-editing, and long-form digital storytelling.
- Deep familiarity with social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp Channels, LinkedIn.
- Experience with tools such as Hootsuite, Emplifi, Trello, Campaign Trackly.
- Experience in analyzing social media performance and producing insights reports.
- Knowledge of digital behaviors in low- and middle-income countries is highly desirable.
- Prior experience working with UN agencies, INGOs, or global organizations is an asset.
- Familiarity with paid digital marketing and fundraising strategies is a plus.
